About Counselling

What is Counselling?

Counselling is a type of talking therapy that allows a person to talk about their problems and feelings with a trained professional counsellor in a safe, non-judgmental and confidential environment. Counselling can provide people with an opportunity to share their views, be heard and gain new perspectives on their situation and experiences in order to gain insight and clarity.

Our Work

As Integrative Counsellor’s we draw on a variety of therapeutic approaches, which enable us to effectively meet the individual needs of the clients we work with. These include Person Centred therapy, which as the name suggests, concentrates very much on the client and uses the relationship between the counsellor and the client to help the client understand what is happening in their world. At the heart of our approach is the development of a warm therapeutic relationship, which provides a safe, supportive, non-judgmental and confidential space to explore any difficulties that you may be experiencing. Michelle and Terry are both members of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). This means that we follow a professional ethical framework, offer a professional standard of work and undertake regular on-going training and clinical supervision to ensure that we work safely and ethically. We also hold Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Certificates (formerly CRB).

We help clients facing a range of issues including, but not limited to the following topics:

  • Depression

  • Anxiety

  • Anger

  • Abuse

  • Loss and Grief

  • Relationship issues

  • Stress

  • Trauma (past or present)

  • Work or career-related issues

Presently we are offering remote sessions. You can choose from video conferencing via Zoom, or telephone counselling. It is useful to think about which communication method you feel more comfortable with, or which is easier for you to access. Each counselling session lasts for 50 minutes, which is widely known as the ‘50 minute hour’, or the ‘therapeutic hour’. All clients are offered an initial course of six counselling sessions; however, frequency and length will very much depend on your unique circumstances and needs.  After this time, you and your counsellor will review your time in therapy and decide whether to extend your contract further. Should you consider counselling with us, we will book an initial appointment, which is just between you and your chosen counsellor, who will help you decide on the next step.
